![]() The 2008 Billfish Blast incorporated several changes to the tournament’s layout, including the addition of a mandatory lay day. In conjunction with the lay day, several side-competitions were introduced to promote participation in tournament related onshore events such as a Boat Harbour Iron Chef Competition and a Bloody Mary Contest, both of which received strong positive feedback and show great potential to grow over the next few years. Also new to the tournament was the use of all video verification, which proves to be a much more reliable source of verification as to the fish species and angler’s adherence to the tournament’s rules and regulations. The event, which took place at Abaco Beach Resort & Boat Harbour, drew a total of 37 boats to compete for the coveted 1st Place Perpetual Trophy. To keep up with tradition, the kick-off party was on Memorial Day, complete with a patriotic theme and a fireworks show that both ended the evening and jump-started the tournament with a bang. Overall points winners were as follows: 1st Place, with 2400 points, Gregarious, a 68’ Viking, 2nd Place, with 1400 points, Bodacious, a 75’ Merritt, 3rd Place, with 1400 points, Cowpoke, a 61’ Viking, 4th Place, with 1200 points, Perfect Parts, a 74’ Tribute, and 5th Place, with 1200 points, Therapy, a 68’ Hatteras.
